What is EPA Safer Choice? What is NSF certified?

Eco-Blast Gallon bottle

What are these certifications and why should you care?

If you look at your Eco-Blast label there are two logos you may or may not recognize.

Safer Choice labelThe NSF Mark | NSF

This means the product has been through rigorous testing to show that Eco-Blast is safe to use and truly won't hurt the environment. Both of these certifications help consumers find safe and effective products to use in their homes. Safer Choice holds products to the highest standards and compares them to the best-selling option on the market. NSF helps distinguish what products can be used around food preparation areas for both home and commercial use. Most "green" products you have on your shelf don't have these certifications. Next time you are at the store look around for these labels.

What is EPA Safer Choice?

Safer Choice label

According to NSF it is, "one of the programs designed to help consumers looking for environmentally-friendly cleaning products is the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Safer Choice program, formerly known as the Design for the Environment (DfE) program." Eco-Blast was tested against top eco-friendly products to compare the cleaning ability and the environmental impact. ASTM, The American Society for Testing and Materials is an organization that publishes production and testing standards for various industries and aids in this process of testing. In order for Eco-Blast to say it is safe for direct release into waterways it has to pass stringent quality standards. The EPA's Standards for Safer Choice state, "Certain products intended for use outdoors are likely to bypass sewage treatment, limiting the time for degradation prior to entering sensitive environments. Any ingredients (including surfactants, preservatives, solvents, etc.) that have aquatic toxicity values <10 mg/L are not allowed in Safer Choice direct-release products". Eco-Blast fits within these measurements and passed tests beating the best-selling product in the category, Simply Green.

What is NSF?

"NSF protects and improves global human health. Manufacturers, regulators, and consumers look to us to facilitate the development of public health standards and provide certifications that help protect food, water, consumer products, and the environment." -NSF.org

According to NSF having a product registered with them "Show(s) the food industry they can trust your chemical products. NSF registers and certifies many chemical compounds, from lubricants to cleaning products". Eco-Blast can be used as an all-purpose cleaner and degreaser in and around food processing plants. It can also be used where the handling and storage of food occurs. However, Eco-Blast is not intended to use on the food itself.
